CERTIFICATE
IN PROFFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY
This course is best for those who wish
to gain an all round photographic education based mainly on
traditional photographic skills.
Course Length:
30hours x 39weeks x 1year. (includes 4
weeks of holidays)
Course Aim:
- To provide a sound base for
students to enter the photographic profession or to
engage in a higher level of study.
- To advance the quality and
appreciation of photography in New Zealand through
excellence in education.
Course Entry
Requirements:
- Photo Access has an equal
opportunities educational policy.
- We provide no barriers to
prospective EFTS students save that they must demonstrate
a genuine desire to study photography and are able to
assure us that they can maintain that desire and meet
course requirements.
- They must also be able to meet the
fee.
- Prospective students would also
have an awareness of a career path and how this course
would suit their needs.
- Previous photographic skills and
learning would be taken into account and verified upon
assessment.
- Students must provide their own
35mm slr camera.
Course
Structure:
This course is built around four
separate components.
- Compulsory photographic
skills.
- This makes up 21% of the course
mark and covers 35mm camera use, black and white
processing and printing, colour printing, light meters
and studio portraits.
- Optional photographic
skills.
- This can make up to 39% of the
course mark with unit standards and learning outcomes
selected from areas including camera use(35mm and
medium format), advanced black and white processes,
advanced colour negative printing, transparency
exposure processing and printing, studio lighting
techniques, visual design and general photographic
skills
- Assignments.
- Up to 20% of the course mark
can be gained through completing assignments. Three
major assignments are set with the best two marks
contributing to the course mark.
- Portfolio.
- Up to 20% of the course mark
can be gained through assessment of an end of year
portfolio. This portfolio is marked by industry
professionals.
To pass this course, each student must
gain a final mark of 60%. A 'certificate with distiction'
will be awarded where a student attains a mark of 90% or
better.
In addition, tuition is also provided
in all main subject areas such as portrait, fashion, still
life, landscape, alternative techniques, documentary,
digital and presentation as well as contact with and tuition
by industry professionals.
